South African Disability Alliance

QASA is a member of the South African Disability Alliance. The National Director of QASA has a mandate from the SADA, to deal with issues of access. Together with the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in South Africa (NCPPDSA), we represent the SADA on the task team for accessible transport with the department of transport.

This task team is liaising with the 12 cities who are implementing the rapid transit system (BRT), and many of the rural areas whose public transport is being upgraded. Furthermore, the task team is responsible for ensuring that the Gautrain is also accessible, and in this case a consultant has been employed through the SADA to ensure that this will be accessible.

There is an updated report on progress of accessible transport available from QASA site, or office.
