The QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA), through the kind sponsorship from Approved Auto and the Rotary Club of Kloof has placed 2 ‘beach wheelchairs’ at Durban beachfront locations. Another 2 ‘beach wheelchairs’ are placed at Granny’s Pool, Southbroom.
With the floating armrest and tyres, the beach going wheelchairs allows persons with mobility impairment to easily transport over beach sand down to the water’s edge and in calm conditions, with no shore break, one can float safely on the water. The ‘beach wheelchair’ provides the user with long lasting comfort so they can relax and enjoy the outdoors! Enjoy the water with family and friends!
The community of Hermanus cares about persons with disabilities and invite everyone to visit the town this summer vacation. Visit and enjoy the sand and sea in the new beach wheelchair we have available. It is the only beach wheelchair along the coast from Cape Town to George and can easily be moved along the sandy beaches. The town’s Access for Citizens Committee launched the project to gain Blue Flag status for the Grotto Beach in Hermanus. The majority of funds were donated by the “Vroue Landbou Unie”, residents and the Overstrand Municipality. The Chair may be used by the aged and persons with disabilities who would like to enjoy the beach environment together with their families. Proof of identification and address is required to reserve the chair at no charge.
